Washington Business Journal – A quick peek inside REI’s newest Greater Washington outpost, opening this week
The relocated Rockville location of REI opens Tuesday, bringing a two-level, 35,000-square-foot outpost of the outdoors retailer to the Pike & Rose development on Rockville Pike.
The co-op will join The Gap and Nike Factory Store and Francesca’s for retail options at the Federal Realty Investment Trust (NYSE: FRT) development. Pinstripes Bowling and Bocce venue will open as another entertainment option — in addition to the iPic movie theater and the Amp by Strathmore music venue — later this year.
Pike & Rose is a block from the White Flint Metro station, though the development does offer substantial garage parking.
REI opened a flagship D.C. store in October inside Douglas Development’s overhauled Uline Arena in NoMa. The 52,000-square-foot flagship includes a dedicated in-house Patagonia shop, an adventure station, a rentable community room, outdoor courtyard, and a La Colombe cafe.
In early February, REI closed its College Park location because it sat between three others — Columbia, NoMa and Pike & Rose.
