Bethesda Magazine – With Open Roads, Park and New Retail, Pike & Rose Readies for More Development

A week after workers opened Rose and Grand Park avenues passing through Pike & Rose, the development is prepping for the opening of a park and new retail shops.

Beauty product store Sephora will open at 10 a.m. Friday in a 4,300-square-foot space on the ground floor of The Henri apartment complex, as will Rose Park, a community gathering area with stone benches, grass and a fountain next to the future L.L. Bean.

Pinstripes, a bowling alley-meets-bistro, has its grand opening on Saturday.

After that, the North Bethesda development is prepping for a steady pace of more openings through the summer and into next year.

“This is an evolution for us,” said Michael Papillon, developer Federal Realty’s general manager of Pike & Rose. “There’s a lot happening all the time.”

Residents will start moving into the 272 units of The Henri in late August, and Sur La Table, a kitchenware products store, will open on its ground floor in early or middle September, Papillon said. H&M will open a 24,000-square-foot clothing store on the same block in mid-September.

In November, L.L. Bean is expected to open in a 22,000-square-foot space next to a full-service Porsche dealership with an indoor lot, which plans to open in late December or January. Porsche currently shares a dealership with Audi in Rockville, which will become solely an Audi dealership.

On the other side of the street from L.L. Bean, the Canopy by Hilton Hotel and the 930 Rose condos, which occupy floors 11 through 20, are set to open early next year, Papillon said. The other retail tenants of the building will open around the same time, including the Red Door by Elizabeth Arden salon and spa, cosmetics store Blue Mercury, Taylor Gourmet and Nando’s Peri-Peri.

Papillon said people often ask him when Pike & Rose will be “done,” but he said he expects the development to keep changing and adapting for the near future.

“’Done’ is a relative term,” he said.
